SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Obtain the replacement serial plate as follows:
a. Collect the following information from the vehicle or customer.
^ NISMO 4 digit serial number (see Figure 1, and Figure 2 above).
^ VIN
^ Customers Name
b. Provide the above information along with your dealer name, dealer code, shipping address, and contact name using email.
c. The replacement serial plate will be sent to your dealer (Attn. Service Manager) via FedEx Overnight.
NOTE:
^ Failure to provide all of the above required information will delay the shipment of the replacement serial plate.
^ Included with the serial plate will be return instructions for the removed serial plate. The removed serial plate must be returned.
2. Make sure the ambient temperature in the working area is 15-30°C (59-86°F).
3. Locate the serial plate at the rear of the center console.
4. Apply masking tape around the edges of the serial plate as shown.
^ Use masking tape that is at least 15 mm (5/8 inch) wide.
^ Apply 2 layers of masking tape.
NOTE:
Masking tape around the edges will mark the location for cleaning and application of the new plate.
5. Apply masking tape diagonally at the top two corners of the serial plate as shown.
^ Apply the tape so it is under both top corners of the plate.
NOTE:
Putting the tape under the corners of the plate will protect the finisher as the plate is removed.
6. Carefully use a plastic trim tool (finesse stick) to lift the lower corner of the serial plate and remove it.
CAUTION:
Do not use a metal tool to remove the serial plate.
7. Remove diagonal tape from the top two corners.
8. Use isopropyl alcohol and a clean lint free rag to completely clean the area inside the masking tape.
^ Make sure to remove any residual double sided tape left on the finisher from the old serial plate.
9. Apply 3M(TM) Adhesion Promoter 4298 (or equivalent) inside the perimeter of the masking tape, but do not touch the masking tape with the adhesion promoter.
^ Cover vehicle interior surfaces to protect against spillage.
^ 3M(TM) Adhesion Promoter 4298 is supplied in an easy to use sponge applicator packet.
^ The Packet should be used as soon as possible after opening.
^ Hold the packet upright and avoid squeezing an open packet (avoid spillage).
^ Open the packet by tearing across the top of the packet at the notches to expose the sponge applicator.
^ Do not remove the sponge from the packet.
^ Hold the bottom section of the packet, apply adhesion promoter using the exposed sponge.
^ Apply a thin uniform coating; do not touch the masking tape.
^ Use the minimum amount needed to fully coat the surface.
^ Allow the adhesion promoter to dry for 1 minute.
^ The new serial plate should be installed as soon as the adhesion promoter is dry.
10. Apply the new serial plate as follows:
a. Make sure the last 4 digits of the new plate match the last 4 digits of the old plate.
b. Make sure the new plate is in new condition - no scratches, dents, discoloration etc.
c. Remove the tape backing from the new plate.
d. Use the masking tape as a guide to correctly position the new plate.
e. Apply a small amount of pressure (5 kg-m, 11 ft-lb) to the new plate for 1 minute.
CAUTION:
The plate will deform (bend) if too much pressure is applied.
11. Remove the masking tape from around the new serial plate.
12. Make sure the new serial plate is level.
