Engine: Service and Repair


1. Remove hood. Scribe locations of hinges for reassembly.
2. Disconnect battery cables and drain cooling system.
3. Remove serpentine drive belt and vacuum pump drive belt.
4. Remove air cleaner and install cover J-26996-1.
5. Disconnect ground wires at inner fender panel.
6. Disconnect engine ground strap.
7. Raise and support vehicle.
8. Remove engine to transaxle brace.
9. Remove flexplate cover and the flexplate to torque converter bolts.
10. Disconnect exhaust pipe from right side exhaust manifold.
11. Remove engine mount to cradle retaining nuts and washers.
12. Remove engine absorber assembly from frame bracket.
13. Disconnect wiring from starter motor.
14. Disconnect No. 2 cylinder glow plug wire.
15. Disconnect lower oil cooler hose and plug opening.
16. Remove accessible power steering pump bracket bolts.
17. Lower vehicle.
18. Remove remaining power steering pump bracket bolts and position assembly aside.
19. Disconnect radiator hoses and heater hoses from engine.
20. Disconnect remaining glow plug wires.
21. Disconnect all other electrical leads from engine and the engine harness connector at cowl connector and body mounted relays.
22. Remove A/C compressor bracket bolts and position assembly aside.
23. Disconnect fuel and vacuum hoses.
24. Disconnect accelerator and throttle valve cables from fuel injection pump.
25. Disconnect and plug upper oil cooler hose.
26. Remove exhaust crossover pipe heat shield.
27. Remove transaxle filler tube.
28. Install suitable engine lifting equipment to engine.
29. Place a suitable support under transaxle rear extension.
30. Remove engine to transaxle bolts and carefully lift engine from vehicle.
31. Reverse procedure to install.
