Engine: Service and Repair
1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Remove air cleaner and the mass air flow meter.
3. Remove exhaust crossover heat shield and the exhaust crossover pipe.
4. Remove accessory drive belt and the tensioner.
5. Remove power steering pump mounting bracket and disconnect heater pipe at power steering pump mounting bracket.
6. Disconnect radiator hose at engine.
7. Disconnect accelerator and T.V. cables at throttle valve.
8. Remove alternator and disconnect wiring harness at engine.
9. Disconnect fuel hoses and the coolant bypass and overflow hoses at engine.
10. Disconnect canister purge hose at canister and remove vacuum hoses as necessary.
11. Raise and support vehicle, then remove right inner fender splash shield.
12. Remove harmonic balance and the flywheel cover.
13. Remove starter attaching bolts, disconnect electrical connectors at starter and remove starter.
14. Disconnect electrical connector at oil sending unit.
15. Remove A/C compressor and its mounting bracket(s).
16. Disconnect exhaust pipe at rear of manifold.
17. Remove flex plate to torque converter attaching bolts and the transaxle to engine brace bolts.
18. Remove engine rear mount to frame nuts.
19. Disconnect shift cable bracket at transaxle.
20. Remove lower bellhousing bolts and lower vehicle.
21. Disconnect heater hoses at engine.
22. Install suitable engine lifting device and support transaxle with suitable jack.
23. Remove upper bellhousing and front mount attaching bolts.
24. Remove brake master cylinder and position out of way.
25. Remove engine from vehicle.
26. Reverse procedure to install.
