Functional Test/Check

Perform test with engine running at normal operating temperature, vehicle hood closed, at ambient temperatures of approximately 75°F.
1. Set panel selector at "OFF," set temperature selector at "85 degrees," and set fan switch at "HI." Air should flow only from heater outlet. Blower should run at slow speed. A/C compressor should not be running.
2. Set panel selector at "DEFROST." Other settings indicated in step 1 remain unchanged. Blower should operate at high speed. Warm air should flow in large volume from defroster outlets, with small flow from heater outlet. Compressor should be running.
3. Set panel selector at "HEATER." Other settings indicated in step 1 remain unchanged. Blower should operate at high speed. Warm air should flow in large volume from heater outlet, with small flow from defroster outlets. Compressor should not be running.
4. Set panel selector at "VENT." Other settings indicated in step 1 remain unchanged. Blower should operate at high speed. Warm air should flow from A/C outlets only. Compressor should not be running.
5. Set panel selector at "BI-LEVEL." Other settings indicated in step 1 remain unchanged. Blower should operate at high speed. Warm air should flow from heater and A/C outlets, with a small amount flowing from defroster outlets. Compressor should be running.
6. Set panel selector at "NORM," and set temperature selector at "65 degrees." Blower should operate at high speed. Cold air should flow from A/C outlets. Compressor should be running.
7. Move blower switch to "LO," stopping momentarily at each blower setting. Blower speed and air flow should decrease at each setting.
8. Set panel selector at "MAX" (maximum A/C position). Blower speed should vary by setting blower switch. Air should be drawn in for recirculation at right side of passenger compartment. Cold air should flow from A/C outlets. Compressor should be running.
