Inoperative 3RD Seat Back Release System

SUBJECT INOPERATIVE 3RD SEAT BACK RELEASE NUMBER: 86-T-57
SYSTEM

DATE: October 15, 1986

MODELS/YEARS 1977-86 CUSTOM CRUISER WAGONS
SECTION: 10
Some 1977 through 1986 Custom Cruiser wagons are being returned to dealers because of an inoperative 3rd seat back release system.

This condition may be caused by the seat back release cable becoming disengaged from the release handle or the release handle breaking because of high operating efforts.

FIGURE 1:

When repairing vehicles with this condition, new improved parts are available from WDDGM. The new parts that make up the seat back release system cannot be used with parts from the original system. Therefore, when repair is required, parts from the original system must be completely replaced with new parts. To determine if a system is of the new type, inspect the end of the cable assembly that attaches to the new release handle. A cable that is part of the new system will have an opening that engages the release handle.. See Figure 1.
If the vehicle is within the basic 12/12 warranty coverage period, submit a warranty claim using the labor operation number and time listed in the Oldsmobile Labor Time Guide for the appropriate year of the vehicle.
