Exhaust System: Description and Operation

The exhaust system is a 4-into-2-into-1 design. A dual-bed monolithic catalytic converter is used to keep back pressure as low as possible. The oxygen sensor is mounted in a cross tube at the 4-into-2 junction. The cross tube feed holes are calibrated to obtain oxygen sensor response without affecting system operation.
The stainless steel exhaust manifold incorporates a ceramic blanket insulator fastened to the top of the manifold to provide acceptable underhood temperatures under all operating conditions.
