Water Pump: Service and Repair

Water Pump Mounting:

Removal
1. Disconnect battery negative cable, then drain cooling system.
2. Remove accessory drive belts.
3. Using tool J-25034, remove pulley.
4. Remove water pump attaching bolts and remove pump.

Installation
1. With sealing surfaces cleaned, place a 1/8 inch bead of sealant, part number 1052289 or equivalent, on water pump sealing surface.
2. With sealing surfaces still wet, install pump and attaching bolts. Coat threaded area of bolts with part number 1052080 sealer or equivalent and torque bolts to 6 ft. lbs. on 1982-84 models or 20 ft. lbs. for 1985-88.
3. Using tool J-25033, install pulley on pump.
4. Install accessory drive belts and adjust to specifications.
5. Connect battery negative cable.
