Electronic Climate Control
DescriptionThe Electronic Climate Control System provides semi-automatic control of the vehicle's interior temperature regardless of outside weather conditions.
Operation
The refrigerant system and module air flow are similar for the Manual and the Electronic Climate Control. The Electronic Climate Control Assembly and its functions are different, however. Although the operator manually selects the operating mode and blower speed, the system will automatically position the temperature valve in response to the outside and inside air temperature sensors, mode selection, desired temperature setting and compressor clutch control.
The control assembly on the instrument panel determines the positions of the outside air, mode and A/C defrost valves. Four vacuum solenoids located in the programmer receive electrical signals from the control assembly. The on/off vacuum solenoids either apply or remove vacuum to move the valves. The operator-set temperature along with outside and inside temperature sensors determine the position of the temperature valve. The temperature valve is mechanically linked to the temperature valve motor in the programmer. The motor positions the valve by pushing or pulling the link.
