Compressor Controls

1. Check Fuse 7 by operating the Rear Defogger (if equipped) or by making a visual check.

2. Check Fuse 5 by making a visual check.

3. Compressor Operation: Turn the Ignition Switch to RUN and start the engine. Put Mode Selector to OFF, then to MAX. A click will be heard when clutch engages. Move Mode Selector between OFF and MAX several times to verify that clutch engages in MAX position. Clutch plate movement can be seen on the front of the compressor pulley.

^ If clutch does not engage, proceed to step 4.

^ Engine coolant fan may run when compressor is engaged. Check that air moves freely through condenser.

^ Feel the suction (cold) and output (warm) pipes of the compressor. If there is not a wide temperature difference after the compressor has run for several seconds, see Heater System Diagnosis.

4. Turn off Ignition Switch and check refrigerant pressure.

^ If refrigerant pressure is normal, isolate condition using the procedures which follow.
