Instrument Cluster Replacement

1. On models equipped with airbag, disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. On all models, disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Rotate headlight switch so notch on switch faces downward. Bend a 1/8 inch hook on a piece of stiff wire. Use the wire hook in the notch to pull the knob retainer clip, then pull knob off shaft.
4. Remove twilight sentinel knob, if equipped
5. Position steering column collar upward, then remove column lower trim cover.
6. Remove two screws securing trim cover to cluster carrier, Fig. 23.
7. Pull trim cover from clips.
8. Remove radio knobs and cigar lighter.
9. Remove two screws securing to panel, Fig. 23.
10. Pull trim cover from panel clips.
11. Remove radio as outlined under AUXILIARY EQUIPMENT/RADIO/COMPONENT REPLACEMENT AND REPAIR/RADIO.
12. Remove A/C-heater control attaching screws, pull control outward, then disconnect control cables and electrical connectors.
13. Remove switches, clock, then disconnect ashtray lamp.
14. Remove righthand outside remote mirror control screws.
15. Disconnect shift indicator cable clip.
16. Remove steering column bolts at floor pan and the nuts from the steering column bracket. Lower the steering column, resting steering wheel on seat.
17. Disconnect speedometer cable.
18. Remove instrument panel cluster carrier bolts and the two instrument panel screws, Fig. 23.
19. Remove center air duct screws.
20. Pull cluster outward to disconnect electrical connectors.
21. Remove cluster carrier, Fig. 23.
22. Reverse procedure to install.
23. Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
