Keyless Entry: Description and Operation
Remote Keyless EntryThe Remote Keyless Entry System includes a hand held radio Transmitter and Keyless Entry Module. The Transmitter sends digitally encoded radio signals to the Module when a button is pushed. Transmitter range is 7 meters (23 feet). The following circuits can be controlled:
1. Illuminated entry lights
2. Door locks (all doors or just driver's)
3. Luggage Compartment Lid Release
Illuminated Entry
The Keyless Entry Module momentarily grounds the Interior Lights for approximately 40 seconds when a door unlock signal is received by the Keyless Entry Module.
Door Locks
When the Transmitter Unlock button is pressed once, the driver's door will be unlocked. The Keyless Entry Module receives the Transmitter signal and activates its output at connector C1 terminal C. This applies battery voltage directly to the LH Front Door Lock Motor which is grounded through the Door Lock Relay Assembly, which remains de-energized.
Pressing the Transmitter Unlock button twice results in the Keyless Entry Module activating its output at connector C1 terminal D. This energizes the Unlock Relay in the Door Lock Relay Assembly and unlocks the RH front and/or rear doors (if equipped with 4 Door).
The LR Front Door Lock Motor is driven directly by the Keyless Entry Module.
Pressing the Transmitter Lock Button results in the Keyless Entry Module activating its output at connector C1 terminal E. This energizes the Lock Relay in the Door Lock Relay Assembly and locks the doors. The LH front door is grounded through the Keyless Entry Module when locking.
Luggage Compartment Lid Release
The Luggage Compartment Lid Release is operated by applying battery voltage to the Luggage Compartment Lid Release Solenoid.
