1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove center trim plate, Fig. 77.
4. Remove lower trim plate, Fig. 78.
5. Remove screws from left and right speaker grilles.
6. Remove speaker grilles and defroster duct screen.
7. Remove left and right sound insulators, Fig. 79.
8. Disconnect parking brake release cable.
9. Remove two screws from dash wire electrical connectors between radio and steering column.
10. Remove four steering column support bolts, disconnect shift indicator cable.
11. Lower steering column, and rest it on driver's seat.
12. Remove two ALDL connector attaching screws.
13. Remove two clips from steering column and pull forward and down.
14. Remove three bolts on lower rail of instrument panel.
15. Remove two instrument panel attaching bolts from brace directly above steering column opening, Fig. 80.
16. Remove two bolts in instrument panel bracket, behind instrument panel compartment opening.
17. Remove air sensor duct, lift upward on instrument panel and pull rearward. Disconnect two side window defogger hoses at distributor outlet.
18. Remove instrument panel assembly from vehicle.
19. Reverse procedure to install.
20. Reactivate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
