Service Brake Adjustment

Tools Required:

J 21177-A Drum to Brake Shoe Clearance Gauge

Adjust

1. Raise car and suitably support.

- Mark relationship of wheel to axle flange.

2. Wheel and tire.

- Mark relationship of drum to axle flange.

3. Make sure stops (30) on park brake levers (18) are against the edge of the show web. If parking brake cable is holding stops off edge of shoe web, loosen parking brake cable adjustment.
4. Measure drum inside diameter (ID) using J 21177-A.
5. Turning adjuster nut (13), adjust shoe and lining diameter to be 1.27 mm (0.050 in) less than inside drum diameter for each rear wheel.
6. Install drums and wheels, aligning previous marks.
7. Apply and release service brake pedal 30 to 35 times with normal pedal force. Pause about one second between pedal applies.
