Air Bag Control Module: Service and Repair
Removal
Handle SIR control module carefully to avoid damaging passenger compartment sensor.
1. Deactivate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG DEACTIVATION.
2. Remove front seat (passenger seat only, if equipped with independent seats).
3. Bend up carpet retention tabs, then roll back carpet to expose passenger compartment sensing system cover.
4. Loosen screws and remove cover.
5. Disconnect sensor connector from harness assembly and the arming sensor connector.
6. Remove diagnostic module.
7. Remove SIR control module attaching nuts and the module. Use care when handling a sensor. Never jar or strike the module in a manner which may cause deployment. Never apply voltage to a sensor when it is not rigidly attached to vehicle.
Installation
1. Install SIR control module with arrow pointing toward front of vehicle.
2. Install module attaching bolts. Torque to 88 inch lbs.
3. Connect sensing connector to harness assembly, and the arming sensor.
4. Install sensor connector retaining pins.
5. Install sensing system cover to bracket, ensuring attaching screws are fully driven, seated and not stripped.
6. Install carpet in position and bend down carpet retention tabs.
7. Install front seat, then activate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG ACTIVATION.

8. Use tester J-36884 to verify proper voltage at SIR test connector, Fig. 311, by performing steps 22 and 23 of DIAGNOSTIC TESTER SEQUENCE under DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING PROCEDURE/DIAGNOSTIC CHARTS.
