1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Turn ignition to the Off position, then remove fuse No. 9 from fuse panel.
4. Remove four left side sound insulator retaining screws.
5. Disconnect courtesy lamp from panel and remove sound insulator from vehicle.
6. Disconnect position assurance (CPA) and yellow two-way (SIR) harness connector at base of steering column, Fig. 93.
7. Remove four right side sound insulator retaining screws, Fig. 94.
8. Disconnect courtesy lamp from panel and remove sound insulator from vehicle.
9. Remove two knee bolster retaining screws, then remove bolster from vehicle, Fig. 95.
10. Remove four steering column reinforcement plate retaining screws, then remove plate from vehicle.
11. Remove instrument panel cluster trim plate retaining screws, then remove plate from vehicle, Fig. 96.
12. Remove right and left side switch assembly retaining screws, then disconnect switch assemblies from electrical connectors and remove from vehicle.
13. Remove instrument panel cluster retaining screws, then pull cluster outward disengaging electrical connector.
14. Remove electronic climate control head retaining screws, if equipped.
15. On models equipped with integral radio unit, proceed as follows:
a. Remove radio/ECC retaining screws, Fig. 97.
b. Remove radio bracket to radio retaining nuts.
c. Disconnect radio electrical connectors and remove radio from vehicle.
16. On models equipped with remote radio chassis, proceed as follows:
a. Open console storage tray and remove CD, cassette holder or phone handset if equipped, Fig. 98.
b. Remove four T-15 Torx screws.
c. Remove storage tray liner, then disconnect two seat control electrical connectors and handset connector if equipped.
d. Open ashtray and remove cigar lighter and ashtray bucket.
e. Pull console trim plate upward, then disconnect trim plate bulb and cigar lighter electrical connectors.
f. Remove console trim plate from vehicle.
g. Remove three 10 mm chassis to CRTC bracket retaining nuts.
h. Disconnect six remote chassis and one coax lead electrical connectors.
17. On all models, remove four driver information display to mounting bracket retaining bolts.
18. Disconnect driver information display electrical connector and remove from vehicle.
19. Remove center A/C deflector, then unsnap and remove defroster grille.
20. Remove upper and lower left instrument panel retaining screws.
21. Remove hood release assembly, remaining instrument panel retaining screws and center instrument panel brace.
22. Remove four inflator module retaining screws located on back of steering wheel assembly.
23. Remove position assurance (CPA) and coil assembly connector from inflator module.
24. Remove inflator module from vehicle. When carrying a live inflator, ensure the bag and trim cover are pointed away in case of accidental deployment. Do not carry inflator module by wires of connector on the underside of the module. In case of accidental deployment, the bag will then deploy with minimal chance of injury. When placing a live inflator module on a bench or other surface, ensure the bag and trim cover faces in a upward direction. Never rest steering column assembly on the steering wheel with the inflator module face down and column vertical. This is necessary in case of accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury may result.
25. Remove horn contact by pushing slightly and twisting counterclockwise.
26. Remove glove box door and glove box unit retaining screws.
27. Remove lower right instrument panel retaining bolt.
28. Remove fuse box retaining screws.
29. Remove console assembly to floor retaining screws and nuts.
30. Disconnect console electrical connectors and remove console from vehicle.
31. Disconnect instrument panel electrical connectors, then remove instrument panel.
32. Reverse procedure to install.
33. Reactivate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
