Removal and Replacement
1. Disconnect battery ground cable and install engine support fixture J-28467 or equivalent.2. Disconnect vacuum hose from modulator and electrical connectors from transaxle.
3. Disconnect T.V. cable from throttle body and transaxle.
4. Remove cruise control servo, if equipped.
5. Disconnect selector cable bracket and manual selector lever from transaxle, then secure cable, bracket and lever assembly aside.
6. Remove neutral start/back-up lamp switch assembly.
7. Remove top 3 bellhousing bolts, bolts securing wiring harness and the driveline damper bracket.
8. Raise and support vehicle.
9. Disconnect cooler lines from transaxle, then plug lines and open fittings.
10. Remove flex plate dust cover and bolts securing flexplate to torque converter.
11. Remove engine mount nuts and left transaxle mount bolts.
12. Remove sway bar links from lower control arms.
13. Ensure control arm is properly supported, then remove cotter pin and nut and disconnect left ball joint.
14. Disconnect left drive axle from transaxle, taking care not to overextend drive axle pot joints. Use drive axle seal protector J-33162 or equivalent on models with silicone (gray) drive axle boots. Models with thermoplastic (black) boots do not require the use of protectors.
15. Remove left side frame (cradle) as follows:
a. Remove bolt securing lower control arm assembly to frame and the strut rod nut, then rotate control arm aside.
b. Remove engine splash shield.
c. Disconnect wiring harness from front crossmember.
d. Remove lower nut securing driveline vibration damper and 2 nuts securing front engine mount to frame.
e. Disconnect left transaxle mount from frame.
f. Remove 3 bolts from rear left side of rail and 4 bolts from the right end of front crossmember.
g. Remove left front frame mount cover and mounting bolt.
h. Separate and remove left frame section.
16. Support transaxle with suitable jack, then remove 2 remaining bellhousing bolts.
17. Remove engine-to-transaxle brace.
18. Disconnect right drive axle and secure aside, taking care not to overextend drive axle pot joints.
19. Separate and remove transaxle.
20. Reverse procedure to install.
