1. Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove two screws from center trim plate, then the center trim plate.
4. Remove 13 lower trim plate retaining screws Figs. 81 and 82.
5. Remove bolt from between instrument panel compartment and ashtray.
6. Pulling lower trim plate rearward, disconnect cigar lighter and remove ashtray.
7. Remove left and right side speaker grilles.
8. Pull defroster duct grille upward, then disconnect sun load sensor/twilight sentinel, if equipped.
9. Remove six right side sound insulator panel screws and nuts, then disconnect courtesy lamp, Fig. 83.
10. Pull sound insulator panel down and rearward to remove.
11. Remove four left side sound insulator screws and nuts, then disconnect courtesy lamp.
12. Remove fuse panel, EBCM from bracket, then pull insulator down and rearward.
13. Remove parking brake release cable and dash wiring harness retaining screws between steering column and radio.
14. Remove steering column mounting bolts, then disconnect shift indicator cable. Move the left side seat forward and rest steering column on seat.
15. Remove ALDL connector retaining screws and the fuse panel clips, then pull fuse panel forward and down.
16. Remove bolts on lower rail of instrument panel, then the screws inside the defroster duct.
17. Remove one screw above each speaker, then the bolt from brace directly above steering column.
18. Remove instrument panel retaining bolts from bracket behind glove compartment.
19. On models equipped with airbag, remove one nut from lower instrument panel brace.
20. Remove air sensor duct, then the trim cover above steering column opening.

21. Lift upward on instrument panel and pull rearward, Fig. 84, then disconnect two side window defogger hoses at distributor outlet.
22. Disconnect radio antenna, then remove the I/P pad.
23. Reverse procedure to install.
24. Reactivate airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
