ACCESSORY POWER PROBLEM NEW PART

MODELS/YEARS 1991 NINETY-EIGHT/TOURING SEDANS

CONDITION: Some 1991 Ninety-Eight models with Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) (option "AUO"), may exhibit a problem with the range at which the system will operate. The customer complaint may be that they have to get very dose to the vehicle to unlock/lock the door or trunk.

Also, the Ninety-Eight/Touring Sedans with Retained Accessory Power (option "KP2"), part of illuminated Entry (option "C97"), may experience a momentary dropout of radio volume or "POP" noise in the radio when the ignition is turned off.

CAUSE: The momentary dropout in volume or "POP" noise in the radio when the ignition is turned off and the short range condition of the RKE option is caused by the Remote Accessory Control (RAC) module.

CORRECTION: To correct the RKE short range condition and eliminate the momentary dropout in volume or "POP" in the radio when the ignition is turned off, replace the Remote Accessory Control (RAC) module with P/N 25602654 which is currently available from GMSPO. After replacing the RAC module, the transmitter must be reprogrammed using the following procedure:

1. Turn the ignition switch to off.
2. Jumper the ALDL connector terminal A to G. At this point the door locks will lock then unlock.
3. Press the "unlock" button on the transmitter. At this point the door locks will again lock then unlock.
4. Disconnect the jumper from the ALDL connector.

The new RAC module should provide an average RKE operation range of about 45 feet. Range may vary from 15 feet to 125 feet depending on the direction and transmitter angle.
