Compressor and/or Mounting Brackets
Compressor:
Compressor Mounting Brackets:
The compressor hose assembly muffler is equipped with wire mesh screens to prevent debris from a compressor failure from contaminating the refrigeration system. System flushing procedures are not required on vehicles equipped with the filter/muffler assembly.
Remove or Disconnect
^ Discharge and recover refrigerant.
1. Serpentine drive belt.
A. Rotate the belt tensioner upward off of drive belt with a wrench.
B. Remove belt from all components.
^ Raise and suitably support vehicle.
2. Compressor splash shield (three screws).
3. Engine splash shield and retainer (three screws).
4. Compressor electrical connection.
5. One bolt securing compressor inlet and outlet line flitting.
6. Compressor from mounting bracket (three bolts).
7. Mounting bracket and brace from engine (five bolts, one nut).
Install or Connect
1. Compressor mounting bracket and brace to vehicle.
Tighten
^ Brace bolts and nut to 27 N.m (20 lb. ft.).
^ Bracket-to-engine bolts to 95 N.m 70 lb. ft.).
2. Compressor to vehicle, securing at front brace and with rear mounting bolts.
Tighten
^ Lower rear compressor mounting bolt to 27 N.m (20 lb. ft.).
^ Upper and front mounting bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb. ft.).
3. Compressor inlet and outlet line fitting.
Tighten
^ Compressor line fitting bolt to 33 N.m (24 lb. ft.).
4. Compressor electrical connection.
5. Compressor and engine splash shields.
^ Lower vehicle.
6. Serpentine drive belt loosely.
Important
^ Be sure that the belt is aligned properly into the grooves of the accessory pulleys.
A. Rotate belt tensioner upward with a wrench and thread the belt under the tensioner pulley.
B. Return tensioner to normal position.
^ Inspect the orifice tube for debris and if necessary, clean or replace. If, in the unlikely event a screen on the orifice tube is ripped, the evaporator core, condenser and orifice tube will have to be replace.
^ Evacuate and charge A/C system.
^ Leak test all refrigerant connections.
