Heater Core: Service and Repair

1. Disarm airbag as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG DEACTIVATION. Failure to do so may result in accidental deployment of airbag, possibly causing personal injury.
2. Remove the battery ground cable and drain cooling system, then remove the righthand sound insulator.
3. Remove knee bolster, then the instrument panel column reinforcement plate.
4. Remove instrument panel cluster trim plate, then the lefthand side switch assembly.
5. Remove righthand side switch plate assembly, then the instrument panel cluster.
6. Remove the climate control head, if equipped.
7. Remove four bolts retaining driver information display (DID), then the DID.
8. Remove the center A/C deflectors, then unsnap and remove defroster grille.
9. Remove upper, then lower-left instrument panel mounting screws and bolts.
10. Remove hood release assembly, retaining bolts and center instrument panel brace.
11. Remove the steering column, then the glove box.
12. Remove the lower-right instrument panel retaining bolt, then the retaining screws and fuse box.
13. Remove the console, instrument panel electrical connectors, then the instrument panel.
14. Remove the programmer electrical connectors, then the programmer, Fig. 18.
15. Remove the BCM electrical connections, then the BCM and mounting bracket.
16. Remove the ECM electrical connections, then the ECM and mounting bracket.
17. Remove heater core from the housing, then the hoses from the core.
18. Remove two heater retaining screws, then the heater core from the vehicle.
19. Reverse procedure to install noting the following:
a. After all work has been completed, rearm airbag as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG ACTIVATION
