Convertible Top: Description and Operation
With the Ignition Switch in "RUN", voltage is applied through Power Window Circuit Breaker to the Convertible Top Switch and the Convertible In-line Circuit Breaker to the normally open contacts of the Top Up Relay and the Top Down Relay. When the Convertible Top Switch is in the "UP" position, voltage from terminal "E" is applied to one side of the Top Up Relay's coil. The Top Up Relay is energized and voltage from the PNK (76) wire is applied to the motor in the Hydraulic Power Assembly. Ground is provided through the normally closed contact of the Top Down Relay. The motor runs a pump which hydraulically raises the Convertible Top.
Circuit operation is similar when the Convertible Top Switch is in the "DOWN" position. Voltage is applied from the Top Down Relay to the motor. Ground is provided from the Top Up Relay. The polarity to the motor has now reversed. The motor turns in the opposite direction to hydraulically lower the Convertible Top.
