Test A: Ignition Key Lock Cylinder and Harness Test

1. Insert the customer's ignition key into the Key Code Reader on the J-35628 Interrogator. Note this key code. If the Key Code Reader shows "E," obtain a spare key or make a replacement key (see IGNITION KEY REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE). Set the Key Code Selector on the J-35628 Interrogator to the customer's key code.
2. Remove the hush panel under the steering column. Disconnect connector C202 (the 48-cavity connector at the base of the steering column) and insert the J-35628-90 Interrogator Adapter between the halves of connector C202. Connect the two 2-terminal connectors from the J035628-90 Adapter to the mating connectors on the pigtails from the J-35628 Interrogator.
3. Insert the customer's ignition key into the Ignition Key Lock Cylinder. The window above the Key Code Reader indicates the electrical code for the key (1 to 15) or "E" for error.
^ Rotate the Ignition Key Lock Cylinder while the key is inserted to insure that the correct code is read in all positions.
^ If the code is correct in all positions, proceed to step 4.
^ If the code shows "E," is erratic or is correct only in some positions, obtain a spare key or make a replacement key (see IGNITION KEY REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE). Read the codes again as above. A correct code indicates that the original key was defective. An incorrect code indicates defective Ignition Key Lock Cylinder.
4. Turn the Ignition Switch to START.
^ If engine starts, reconnect vehicle wiring and check that connector C202 at the base of the steering column mates correctly.
^ If the engine does not start, go to TEST B: PASS KEY DECODER MODULE TEST.
