Driver/Vehicle Information Display: Description and Operation

The Driver Information System will only operate when the Ignition Switch is in the RUN position (IGN 3). The BCM processes all of the data requests from the Driver Information System (DIS) Switch and displays the data on the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).

Each button on the DIS Switch has a unique data word associated with it. When a button is pressed on the DIS Switch a data request is sent to the BCM via circuit 1184. Synchronization of the communication between the DIS Switch and the BCM is controlled by the BCM through circuit 1179, the Clock Input.
