Hot-Idle Engine Message






TEST CONDITION(S)
NONE

FAILURE CONDITION(S)
1. Conditions for Flashing Coolant Gage are met for greater than 120 seconds.
or
1. Engine is running.
2. Coolant temperature is in a valid range.
3. Coolant temperature is greater than 130 degrees centigrade.

ACTION TAKEN
1. Display the "HOT IDLE ENGINE" message on the IPC.
2. Flash the coolant temperature gage bars.
3. Activate the fast paced chime on the chime module.

DESCRIPTION
The PCM provides 5 volts to the coolant temperature sensor circuit. The PCM supplies and internally monitors the voltage level of the coolant temperature circuit at pin 2B9. The coolant temperature sensor is a thermistor, so as the coolant temperature goes from cold to hot, the sensors resistance goes from high to low, and the voltage level the PCM detects at pin 2B9 goes from high to low. Every 1 second the BCM checks the PCM for the coolant temperature. If the failure conditions for Flashing Coolant Gage exist for more than 120 seconds, or the calculated coolant temperature reaches 130 degrees centigrade and all the other failure conditions have been met, the BCM will cause the coolant temperature gauge bars to flash. The BCM will send the "HOT IDLE ENGINE" message to the IPC and will activate the fast paced chime on the chime module.
