DTC 16 - System Voltage High:

Circuit Description:

The ECM monitors system voltage on CKT 439 at terminal "BA6". If the ECM detects voltage above 16 volts for more than 10 seconds, it will turn the MIL (Service Engine Soon) "ON" and set DTC 16 in memory.

DTC 16 will set if:
^ Engine running.
^ System voltage as monitored at ECM terminal "BA6" over 16 volts for at least 10 seconds.

Test Description: Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.

1. Test generator output to determine proper operation of the voltage regulator. Run engine at moderate speed and measure voltage across the battery. If over 16 volts, repair generator..


Diagnostic Aids:

Charging the battery with a battery charger and starting the engine may set DTC 16.

An intermittent may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through insulation, a wire broken inside the insulation or poor ECM grounds.

Check for:
^ Poor Connection or Damaged Harness. Inspect ECM harness connectors for improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal to wire connection and damaged harness.
^ Intermittent Test. If connections and harness checks OK, monitor battery voltage display while moving related connectors. If the failure is induced, the battery voltage will abruptly change. This may help to isolate the location of the malfunction.

Important
^ If ECM and sensor grounds are located on the same stud at the transaxle as the battery ground you could have improper data to ECM or false DTC(s).
