DTC 39
DTC 39 - Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Circuit:
TCC Wiring Circuit:
Circuit Description:
The ECM controls the TCC operation by grounding CKT 422 through a quad-driver.
DTC 39 will set if:
^ No DTC 28 is present.
^ Brake is not applied.
^ TCC is commanded by the ECM.
^ Transaxle is in high gear.
^ The engine speed to vehicle speed ratio does not indicate that TCC is engaged.
^ All of the above for a time greater than 15 seconds.
DTC 39 does not illuminate the MIL (Service Engine Soon).
Test Description: Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. Checks ERLS fuse and brake switch.
2. Checks ECM for proper operation.
3. Checks the internal switches in the transaxle.
Diagnostic Aids:
An intermittent DTC 39 may be the result of a wire or CKT 420 problem between the splice and the TCC solenoid, CKT 422 problem between TCC solenoid and ECM, poor connection to ECM connector, or possibly the ECM.
If the ECM, TCC solenoid, and TCC control circuitry are operating correctly but the TCC still does not engage properly, the problem could be hydraulic or mechanical.
