Fuel Filter: Service and Repair

Fuel Filter:






Note: There is no service interval for fuel filter replacement. Only replace fuel filter if it is restricted.

Remove or Disconnect
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Relieve fuel system pressure (see "Fuel System Pressure Relief"). [1][2]Fuel System Pressure Relief Procedure
3. Raise vehicle on hoist.
4. Quick-connect fitting (see "Quick-Connect Fittings") under Fuel Supply Line. Fuel Supply Line
5. Fuel feed pipe nut from fuel filter. Drain any remaining fuel into an approved container.
6. Slide fuel filter out of bracket.

Inspect fuel pipe 0-ring for cuts, nicks, swelling or distortion. Replace if necessary.

Install or Connect

CAUTION: To Reduce the Risk of Fire and Personal Injury: If nylon pipe is nicked, scratched or damaged during installation, it must be replace.

1. New plastic connector retainer on filter inlet.

^ Install in same position as on old filter.

2. Slide fuel filter into bracket.
3. Quick-connect fitting.
4. Fuel feed pipe nut to outlet side of filter.

Tighten
^ Use backup wrench to prevent filter from turning.
^ Fuel filter outlet nut to 27 Nm (20 lb. ft.).

5. Lower vehicle.
6. Tighten fuel filler cap.
7. Negative battery cable.

To inspect, turn ignition switch to "ON," position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position, and check for fuel leaks.
