Engine: Service and Repair

ENGINE REMOVAL














Remove or Disconnect
1. Hood.
2. Battery leads at battery.
3. Depressurize fuel lines.
4. Drain coolant and engine oil.
5. Strut tower cross brace.
6. Windshield washer, radiator, and heater supply hoses.
7. Wiring to starter.
8. Main wiring harness to engine and battery harness connectors located near relay center.
9. Drive belt.
10. Power steering pump and set aside.
11. Air flow duct and air cleaner.
12. Throttle cable form throttle linkage mounting bracket, and other applicable cables.
13. Wiring harness connector from:
a. Mat Sensor.
b. Throttle position sensor.
c. Idle air control valve.
d. Oxygen sensor.

14. Ignition coil assembly ground strap from fender inner panel attaching screws.
15. Fuel feed and return lines from fuel rail and fuel pressure regulator.
16. Emission control canister hoses from throttle body connections.
17. Brake booster and heater control hoses from engine vacuum connections.
18. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
19. Exhaust pipe from right manifold.
20. Vacuum hoses at cruise control, servo assembly.
21. Attach a suitable lifting hook and chain to engine lifting brackets, raise engine slightly to take weight off mounts.
22. Air conditioning compressor and tie back compressor away from engine.
23. Engine oil cooler lines if so equipped.
24. Front engine mount.
25. Right front engine to transaxle bracket.
26. Support transaxle and remove engine to transaxle bolts.
27. Flywheel cover.
28. Torque converter to flywheel bolts.
^ Use a scribe to mark flywheel to torque converter relationship to assure proper reassembly.

29. Separate engine from transaxle and raise engine.

Install or Connect
1. Lower engine assembly.
2. Engine to transaxle bolts.
Tighten
Bolts to 75 N.m (55 lb. ft.).
3. Right front engine to transaxle bracket.
4. Front engine mount.
5. Torque converter to flywheel bolts with converter to flywheel in same relationship as before disassembly.
Tighten
Bolts to 62 N.m (46 lb. ft.).
6. Flywheel cover.
7. Engine oil cooler lines, if equipped.
8. Air conditioner compressor.
9. Cruise control, vacuum hoses at servo assembly.
10. Exhaust pipes to right manifold.
11. Wiring harness connectors to:
a. Mat sensor.
b. Throttle position sensor.
C. Idle air control valve.
d. Oxygen sensor.

12. Throttle cable to throttle linkage, mounting bracket and also other applicable cables.
13. Air flow duct and air cleaner mountings.
14. Power steering pump to engine.
15. Main wiring harness to engine and battery connectors located behind the relay housing.
16. Wiring to starter.
17. Windshield washer, radiator, and heater supply hoses.
18. Radiator hoses.
19. Add coolant and engine oil.
20. Battery leads.
21. Check for:
^ Oil level.
^ Fluid levels.
^ Fluid leaks.
^ For proper completion of repair.
