Engine: Service and Repair

1. Disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system.
2. Open hood to full position, then remove gas support at cowl.
3. Remove air cleaner and duct assembly.
4. Remove throttle control cable bracket at intake and rocker cover.
5. Relieve fuel pressure as follows:
a. Loosen fuel tank filler cap to relieve tank pressure.
b. Raise and support vehicle, then disconnect fuel pump electrical connector.
c. Lower vehicle.
d. Start and operate engine until fuel supply is consumed.
e. Crank engine for approximately 3 seconds to relieve remaining pressure.
f. Disconnect battery ground cable, then reconnect fuel pump connector.
6. Disconnect fuel line, then the vacuum, radiator and heater hoses.
7. Remove engine mount strut and bracket pencil brace, then disconnect engine electrical connector.
8. Rotate engine forward.
9. Remove power steering pump and electrical connectors at rear of engine.
10. Disconnect transaxle fluid level indicator, then remove transaxle engine bolts except two upper bolts.
11. Rotate engine rearward, then raise and support vehicle.
12. Remove front wheel and tire assembly.
13. Remove right side engine splash shield, then disconnect exhaust pipe from crossover.
14. Remove flywheel cover and starter motor.
15. Remove engine mount to frame nuts.
16. Remove converter to flywheel bolts.
17. Disconnect A/C compressor, leaving hoses attached, then position compressor aside.
18. Disconnect front exhaust pipe support bracket at transaxle.
19. Remove transaxle support bracket to transaxle bolt, then lower vehicle.
20. Rotate engine forward and rearward, then remove rear and front transaxle attaching bolts to engine.
21. Attach suitable lifting device to engine.
22. Remove engine.
23. Reverse procedure to install.
