DTC 13

13 ABS ACTIVE OR LOW TRAC LAMP CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION

DTC 13 ABS Active Or Low Trac Lamp Circuit Malfunction:

DTC 13 ABS Active Or Low Trac Lamp Circuit Malfunction:

CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION:
This DTC checks the state of the ABS active lamp to identify a situation in which the driver could not be warned of a low traction event by the ABS active lamp, or the active lamp is always "ON." The EBCM provides a ground through CKT 1656 to turn the ABS active lamp "ON." If the control line, CKT 1656 is open the lamp will always be "OFF." If the control line is shorted to ground, the ABS active lamp is kept

DTC WILL SET WHEN:
DTC 13 only can be set during the three second bulb check or when the lamp is commanded "ON." If the EBCM cannot control the "LOW TRAC" lamp for two seconds, a malfunction exists.

ACTION TAKEN:
A malfunction DTC is stored, however, ABS is not disabled.

DTC CHART TEST DESCRIPTION:
Number(s) below refer to circled number(s) on the diagnostic chart.
1. Determines if the "LOW TRAC" lamp can be properly controlled.
2. Determines if the "LOW TRAC" lamp is "ON" constantly.
3. Checks for a short to ground in the "LOW TRAC" lamp circuitry.
4. Determines if DTC 13 was set due to a EBCM malfunction.
5. Determines if DTC 13 was set due to a EBCM malfunction.
6. Determines if the "LOW TRAC" lamp can be controlled manually.
7. Verifies the integrity of the "LOW TRAC" lamp circuitry.
8. Determines if there is a short to voltage in the "LOW TRAC" lamp circuitry.
9. Determines if DTC 13 was set due to an EBCM malfunction.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS:
An "Intermittent" malfunction may be caused by a poor connection, rubbed through wire insulation, or a wire that is broken inside the insulation.

The lamp test function of the Tech 1 may be used to command the lamp "ON" while looking for an intermittent malfunction in the "LOW TRACTION" lamp circuitry.

The frequency of the malfunction can be checked by using the enhanced diagnostic function of the Tech 1.

Any circuitry that is suspected as causing the intermittent complaint should be thoroughly checked for backed out terminals, improper mating, broken locks, improperly formed or damaged terminals, poor terminal to wiring connections or physical damage to the wiring harness.
