1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove console assembly as follows:
a. Remove console front compartment assembly, Fig. 28
b. Remove transmission shift knob.
c. Remove console front compartment assembly.
d. Remove console rear compartment lower insert.
e. Remove console assembly attaching nuts.
f. Disconnect all console electrical connectors.
g. Remove console assembly from vehicle.
3. Remove instrument panel molding by carefully pulling rearward, Fig. 29
4. Remove cluster trim plate to instrument panel attaching screws.
5. Tilt top of cluster trim plate rearward, then pull bottom of trim plate rearward.
6. Disconnect HVAC control head and head/park lamp switch connectors.
7. Disconnect HVAC control head vacuum harness connector.
8. Remove HVAC control head by carefully pushing one side outward.
9. Remove head/park lamp switch by carefully pushing one side outward.
10. Remove upper trim pad attaching screws, then the upper trim pad.
11. Remove passenger inflator module attaching bolts, then lift inflator module and disconnect electrical connector. Always place inflator module with trim cover up and away from any loose objects. 12. Remove sound insulator to instrument panel attaching screws and nuts, Fig. 30.
13. Pull lefthand sound insulator down and rearward.
14. Disconnect Data Link Connector (DLC).
15. Remove fuse block cover, then separate fuse from sound insulator.
16. Disconnect turn signal flasher, then the courtesy lamp from sound insulator.
17. Pull righthand sound insulator down and rearward.
18. Disconnect courtesy lamp from sound insulator.

19. Remove plastic cap in knee bolster panel near door to access screw, Fig. 31.
20. Remove knee bolster to instrument panel attaching screws.
21. Pull knee bolster rearward and remove interior lamp control module.
22. Disconnect traction control/computer command ride switch connector.
23. Disconnect compartment/fuel door release switch connector.
24. Separate air temperature sensor from knee bolster.
25. Remove knee bolster from vehicle.
26. Remove deflector attaching bolts and nuts, then the deflector.
27. On models with column shift, disconnect PRNDL cable from steering column.
28. Support column and remove two steering column support bracket to instrument panel attaching bolts.
29. Lower steering column.

NOTE: Cover steering column with protective cloth to prevent any scratches when removing instrument panel.

30. Remove instrument panel center bracket to dash center support bracket bolts.

31. Remove instrument panel to outer support bracket bolts and nuts, Fig. 32.
32. Pull instrument panel assembly away from dash and disconnect electrical connectors.
33. Separate antenna coax cable and vacuum line connector from instrument panel.
34. Remove instrument panel from vehicle.
35. Reverse procedure to install.
