Ignition Switch Assembly - Column Shift








Remove or Disconnect
1. Disable the SIR system; refer to "Disabling the SIR System."
2. Negative (-) battery cable.
3. Steering column from vehicle.





4. Hexagon washer head screws (79).
5. Hexagon nut (89).
6. PRNDL adjuster bracket (90).
7. Torx washer head screws (83).
8. Dimmer switch mounting stud (88).
9. Ignition switch assembly (87) from ignition switch actuator assembly (91).
10. Turn signal switch assembly (16) connector from bulkhead connectors
11. Pivot & (pulse-dimmer) switch assembly (14) connector from bulkhead connector.

Install or Connect

NOTICE: When fasteners are removed, always reinstall them at the same location from which they were removed. If a fastener needs to be replaced, use the correct part number fastener for that application. If the correct part number fastener is not available, a fastener of equal size and strength (or stronger) may be used. Fasteners that are not reused, and those requiring thread locking compound will be called out. The correct torque value must be used when installing fasteners that require it. If the above conditions are not followed, parts or system damage could result.

NOTICE: Ensure all fasteners are securely seated before applying needed torque. Failure to do so may result in component damage or malfunctioning of steering column.

1. Steering column lock cylinder set (21) to "OFF-LOCK" position.





NOTICE: Install ignition switch (87) to jacket assembly (81) with ignition switch (87) in "OFF-LOCK,, position. New ignition switch will be pinned in "OFF-LOCK,' position. Remove plastic pin after switch is assembled to column. Failure to do so may cause switch damage.





Adjust
- Ignition switch assembly (87).
a. Move switch slider to extreme right position.
b. Move switch slider one detent to left "OFF LOCK" position.
c. Install 3/32 inch drill bit in hole on switch to limit travel.

2. Ignition switch assembly (87) to ignition switch actuator assembly (91).
3. Dimmer switch mounting stud (88).
- Tighten stud (88) to 4.0 Nm (35 lb in).
4. Torx washer head screw (83).
- Tighten screw (83) to 4.0 Nm (35 lb in).
5. Remove drill bit from ignition switch (87).
6. PRNDL adjuster bracket (90) to stud (88).
7. Hexagon washer head screw (79) and hexagon nut (89).
- Tighten screw (79) and nut (89) to 4.0 Nm (35 lb in).
8. Pivot & (pulse-dimmer) switch assembly (14) connector to bulkhead connector.
- Seat connector body until securely locked in.
9. Turn signal switch assembly (16) connector to bulkhead connector.
- Seat connector body until securely locked in,
10. Steering column to vehicle.
11. Negative (-) battery cable.
12. If all service operations are completed, enable the SIR system; refer to "Enabling the SIR System."
