Wiper Arm: Service and Repair

Remove or Disconnect
1. Washer nozzle hose (38), protective cap (39) and nut (40) from wiper arm assembly (41) with wipers in park position and hood raised.
2. Lift wiper arm assembly (41) and insert a suitable pin or pop rivet (L) completely through the two holes located next to pivot of arm. Then, lift wiper arm assembly (41) off its transmission drive shaft (M) using a battery terminal puller.
3. Wiper blade assembly, if required.
Clean
Any metal shavings from knurls of transmission drive shaft with a wire brush.
Install or Connect
NOTICE: Refer to Service Precautions.
1. Wiper blade assembly, if removed.
2. Wiper arm assembly (41) on transmission drive shaft (M), then remove pivot pin or pop rivet (L).
^ If installing LH wiper arm and blade assembly, the blade tip must be 53 mm (approx. 2 in.) from bottom edge of glass.
^ If installing RH wiper arm and blade assembly the blade tip must be 231 mm (approx. 9-1/8 in.) from bottom edge of glass.
3. Nut (40).
Tighten
^ Nut (40) to 23 N.m (17 lb. ft.) while holding blade tip in position.
Important
^ It may be necessary to allow for some movement of arm when nut is being tightened. If arm moves away from desired alignment mark, loosen nut (40) and reposition arm by moving blade tip. Retighten nut (40).
4. Protective cap (39) and washer hose (38).
5. Run wipers at "MI" and "LO" speeds with wet and tacky windshield. Check wipe pattern and for any interference between blades.
