Troubleshooting Hints - Charging System

1. Check the built in battery hydrometer eye in the vehicle's Battery before troubleshooting the Charging System.
^ Green eye - Battery is charged sufficiently for load testing.
^ Dark eye - Battery is discharged. Recharge Battery for load test.
^ Clear or yellow eye - Battery fluid is low. Replace Battery.
2. Check GEN BATT Fuse and Fusible Link by visual inspection.
3. Check condition of the Generator Belt.
4. Check that Starter Solenoid terminal B and Battery connections are clean and tight.
^ Check for a broken (or partially broken) wire inside of the insulation which could cause system failure but prove GOOD in a continuity/voltage check (refer to General Troubleshooting Procedures).
^ Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment which may effect the integrity of other systems (refer to General Troubleshooting Procedures). Diagnostic Aids
