Audible Warning Device: Description and Operation
The Audible Warnings System brings to the driver's attention one or more of several conditions:^ Lamps are on, ignition switch is set to LOCK, OFF or ACCY, and driver's door is open.
^ Key is in ignition switch, ignition switch is set to LOCK, OFF or ACCY, and driver's door is open.
^ Seat belt is unbuckled and ignition switch is in RUN or START.
^ A turn signal is left on and vehicle has traveled over 1.2 km (3/4 mile).
^ Park brake is engaged and vehicle has traveled approximately 12 m (40 feet).
Module Power
Voltage is applied at all times on CKT 540 (ORN) and CKT 640 (ORN) to Body Control Module (MALL) connector C1 terminal H and G respectively, to power the module. With the ignition switch in RUN, BULB TEST or START, voltage is applied on CKT 39 (PNK) to MALL module connector C2 terminal C13.
Lamps On Chime
If the LH front door is open and the Body Control Module (MALL) does not sense voltage at lamps off input CKT 1785 (LT BLU) and there is no voltage at ignition CKT 39 (PNK), the fast-pulsed Lamps On chime sounds.
Key In Ignition Chime
The Key In Ignition chime sounds with the key in the ignition switch and the LH front door open. When the ignition key warning switch and the LH front door lock switch close, the Body Control Module (MALL) senses ground at the key in ignition input on CKT 80 (LT GRN) (without keyless entry) or CKT 653 (DK BLU/WHT) (with keyless entry), and sounds the medium-pulsed chime.
Fasten Seat Belts Chime
With ignition switch in RUN, BULB TEST, or START, voltage is applied on CKT 39 (PNK) to the Body Control Module (MALL). With the LH front seat belt unbuckled, the seat belt switch grounds the MALL module seat belt switch input on CKT 238 (BLK/WHT). The module in turn applies battery voltage to CKT 234 (YEL) and the "FASTEN BELTS" indicator lights for 4 to 8 seconds.
The Fasten Seat Belts chime sounds for 4 to 8 seconds if the LH front seat belt is unbuckled and the ignition switch is turned to RUN, BULB TEST or START. If LH front seat belt is buckled when the ignition switch is turned to RUN, BULB TEST or START, no chime sounds.
Turn Signal On Chime
When a turn signal is operated, the Body Control Module (MALL) begins to monitor vehicle distance. If the turn signal is still flashing after the vehicle has traveled 1.2 km (3/4 mile), the Turn Signal On chime sounds four times.
