Circuit Operation

The electronically tuned Radio receives power from the RADIO ACCESSORY Fuse and circuit 43 when the Ignition Switch is in RUN or ACCY. The clock and memory circuits receive power from the RADIO BATTERY Fuse at all times. The Radio is grounded through circuit 151. When the Ignition Switch is in RUN or ACCY, the vacuum fluorescent display illuminates to display the time or Radio frequency setting.

The Radio illumination is controlled by the Panel Dimmer Switch. When the Headlamp Switch is in PARK or HEAD, voltage is applied through the Panel Dimmer Switch and circuit 8 to the Radio panel lamps and the internal circuitry. When the Headlamp Switch is in PARK or HEAD, voltage is also applied through circuit 9 to the Radio, signaling the internal circuitry to adjust the brightness of the vacuum fluorescent display to a level determined by the voltage of circuit 8.

Remote Cassette Tape Player (optional)
With the Ignition Switch in RUN or ACCY, and the Radio Power Switch ON, voltage is supplied to the Cassette Player through the Radio.

With the Remote Cassette Player in PLAY, the Cassette Player returns a Tape ON signal and the Stereo Audio signals to the Radio. The Tape ON signal causes the Receiver Circuitry to ignore the signals from the Turner and to send the audio signals from the Cassette Player to the Speakers. With the Cassette Player in FWD, REV, or SEEK, the Cassette Player applies a mute signal to the Radio to prohibit the Audio sound of these functions from being heard. When the EJECT Button is pushed on the Cassette Player, the Tape ON signal is terminated and the Radio returns to normal operation.
