Mirrors: Description and Operation

Each Outside Mirror has two reversible motors: one to adjust the mirror view up and down, and the other to adjust the mirror view right and left. The driver operates a Power Mirror Switch that controls the polarity of the voltage to the motors. The Mirror Select Switch directs these control voltages to either the RH or LH Outside Mirror Motor. The Mirror Select Switch also has a center OFF position which will keep the mirror motors from inadvertently being operated.

With the switches in the positions shown in the schematic, the LH Outside Mirror will be controlled. When the Power Mirror Switch is moved DOWN, battery voltage from circuit 1840 is applied to circuit 89 and the Vertical Motor in the LH Outside Mirror. The Power Mirror Switch supplies a path to ground through circuit 82, the down contacts of the mirror control switch and circuit 550. The LH Mirror Vertical Motor runs to move the mirror down.

If the Power Mirror Switch is pushed to the UP position, the same motor receives voltage and circuit 89 is grounded. The motor runs in the opposite direction.

The LH Horizontal Motor operates in a similar manner when the mirror control switch is moved to the LEFT position. Circuit 82 receives battery voltage and circuit 81 is grounded through the left contacts.

The RH Outside Mirror works the same way as the LH Outside Mirror when the Mirror Select Switch is moved to the RIGHT position and the Power Mirror Switch is operated.
