Circuit Operation - Interior Lights

The Body Function Controller (BFC) supplies power to all Courtesy, Dome, Vanity, Reading, Glove Compartment and Rear Compartment Lamps with a feature called Inadvertent Power Control.

The LF Door Ajar Switch turns on the Interior Lamps through the BFC by grounding the 394 circuit. When the LF Door is opened, the switch closes, providing ground and a door open input to the BFC. The BFC then grounds the Courtesy Lamps and Dome Lamps to turn them on. The RF Door Ajar Switch and rear Door Ajar Switches turn on the Interior Lamps by grounding the 395 circuit from the BFC. When the Ignition key is removed from the lock cylinder, the Interior Lamps will remain on for about 40 seconds.

An Interior Lamps-ON delay is provided by the BFC after a door has been opened. The lamps remain on for about 40 seconds or until the Ignition Switch is turned to the RUN position. This 40 second lamps-on delay is reduced to 4 seconds if a door is opened within 2 minutes after the Ignition Switch is moved from the RUN position. In addition, the Interior Lamps will turn off immediately when the vehicle begins to move.

The Dome Lamp OFF-DOOR-ON switch controls the Dome Lamp. When the switch is in the OFF position, the Dome Lamp will remain off. When the switch is in the DOOR position, the Dome Lamp will light when a door is opened. When the switch is in the ON position, the Dome Lamp lights, but this will not turn on the Courtesy Lamps. The Rear View Mirror Reading Lamps are only controlled by the Rear View Mirror Reading Lamps Switch.

The Remote Control Door Lock Receiver signals the BFC to turn on the Interior Lamps when a door unlock signal or trunk release signal is received by the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver by momentarily grounding the 395 circuit.

Voltage is applied at all times through the INT LPS Fuse to the BFC. The BFC then applies voltage at all times to its internal feature, Inadvertent Power Control.

Voltage is applied at all times through the AUX PWR/CIGAR Fuse to the Auxiliary Power Outlet and the Cigar Lighter.

Battery Run Down Protection
The Inadvertent Power Control output of the BFC applies voltage to the Courtesy, Dome, Vanity, Reading, Glove Compartment and Rear Compartment Lamps. Its output timer will shut OFF power to all of the above lamps with the Ignition Switch in the OFF position after 18 to 22 minutes.

The Inadvertent Power Control output can be reset by opening or closing a door, turning the Ignition Switch to the RUN position, or checking and shutting OFF any Interior Lamps that were inadvertently left on.
