Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal (VSS) - Range Active I Inactive

This data indicates whether the Body Function Controller (BFC) is acknowledging a Vehicle Speed Sensor signal at the Instrument Cluster via the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) serial data line. Active, is displayed if the Body Function Controller (BFC) is measuring a Vehicle Speed Sensor signal message at the Instrument Cluster via the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) serial data line. Inactive, is displayed if the Body Function Controller (BFC) is not measuring a Vehicle Speed Sensor signal message at the Instrument Cluster via the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) serial data line. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) constantly receives and converts the discrete A/C voltage signal generated by the Automatic Transmission Output (Shaft) Speed Sensor (A/T OSS Sensor) into a Digital Vehicle Speed Signal. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) sends this digital vehicle speed signal information to the Body Function Controller (BFC) and other modules via the Class 2 serial data line and to the Instrument Cluster via the discrete Vehicle Speed Sensor Signal (VSS) line. The Instrument Cluster calculates the correct vehicle speed to display in km/h (mph) based on the Vehicle Speed Signal input and drives the speedometer and odometer accordingly.
