Headlamp Replacement (Oldsmobile)
Removal Procedure
Caution: Halogen bulbs contain gas under pressure. Handling a bulb improperly could cause it to shatter into flying glass fragments. To help avoid personal injury:
- Turn off the lamp switch and allow the bulb to cool before changing the bulb.
- Leave the lamp switch OFF until the bulb change is complete.
- Always wear eye protection when changing a halogen bulb.
- Handle the bulb only by its base. Avoid touching the glass.
- Keep dirt and moisture off the bulb.
- Properly dispose of the used bulb.
- Keep halogen bulbs out of the reach of children.
1. Open the hood.
2. Apply light pressure to the headlamp lens to hold the headlamp in place while releasing the retainers.
3. Lift up the headlamp retainers to release.
4. Remove the headlamp.
5. Remove the sidemarker lamp bulb/socket from the headlamp.
6. Disconnect the electrical connector from the headlamp.
7. Remove the [1][2]turn signal lamp bulb/socket.
8. Remove the rubber access cover(s) from behind the headlamp bulb(s) to be replaced.
9. Rotate the headlamp bulb base counterclockwise to release.
10. Remove the headlamp bulb from the headlamp.
11. Disconnect the electrical connector from the headlamp bulb.
Installation Procedure
1. Connect the electrical connector to the headlamp bulb.
2. Install the headlamp bulb to the headlamp.
3. Rotate the headlamp bulb base clockwise to secure.
4. Install the rubber access cover(s) to the headlamp.
5. Install the [1][2]turn signal lamp bulb/socket to the headlamp.
6. Connect the electrical connector to the headlamp.
7. Install the sidemarker lamp bulb/socket to the headlamp.
8. Position the headlamp mounting tabs to the slots in the upper fascia support and the fender reinforcement.
9. Apply light pressure to the headlamp lens to hold the headlamp in place while installing the retainers.
10. Align the headlamp retainers over the headlamp mounting tabs, then press the retainers down until fully seated.
11. Inspect the headlamp for proper fit.
12. Check the headlamp aim, If a new headlamp was installed, or if service or repairs in the front end area may have disturbed the headlamp mounting brackets.
13. Close the hood.
