EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Subject:
PCM, I/P Cluster, EBTCM and BCM Parts Management Program
Models:
1999 Oldsmobile Alero
1999 Pontiac Grand Am
To gain feedback on the new electronic serial data system on the 1999 "N" cars, a parts management program will be in effect until 1/31/99. It is critical that all removed parts are promptly returned. This program will also provide the dealer technician with additional support when diagnosing this system through the use of "N" car technical experts.
The program will be administered by divisional Technical Assistance Centers and apply to the part numbers listed.
If your dealership receives a customer concern on the PCM, PC, BCM, or EBTCM, follow the procedure below:
a. Diagnosis
Follow all necessary system checks, troubleshooting hints, and diagnostic troubleshooting charts in the appropriate sections of the Service Manual. Record all findings including, but not limited to, initial customer concern, DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Codes), other related repairs performed, delivery date, and Service Manual page numbers referenced while performing diagnostics.
b. Parts Ordering - Exchange
Once the above diagnostics are complete and a replacement part is deemed necessary, call the Divisional Technical Assistance group.
^ Technical Assistance Centers will require the VIN, technician's name, dealer code, preferred AC Exchange Center (for IPC replacement), and the fore-mentioned diagnostic information.
^ PCM, BCM: The Technical Assistance Center will arrange for the shipment of a replacement PCM or BCM from GMSPO within 24 hours and provide a case reference number. The core information tag (for PCM) must be completely filled out and include a copy of the repair order (with the case reference number) to aid in product analysis. The dealership will receive a request for the returned part via the D.C.S. Refer to Warranty Administration Corporate Bulletin # 40-05-01C, dated September, 1998, for shipping instructions. The replaced part should be shipped to the following address:
GM Warranty Parts Center
45 Northpointe Road
Lake Orion, MI 48360
^ IPC: The Technical Assistance Center will request the dealer's preferred AC Delco Exchange Center. The AC Delco Exchange Center will process and ship the order for next day delivery. The Technical Assistance Center will provide a case reference number. The exchanged unit must be returned to the AC Exchange Center with a copy of the repair order (including case reference number) to aid in product analysis.
^ If an EBTCM is required, call the Delphi Chassis Division's Technical Assistance Network for ABS-6, 1-800-523-0203.
Following this procedure will ensure the success of this program and allow for the continuous improvement of this product. If you have any questions concerning the exchange program administration procedures, please contact the Technical Assistance Network (TAN).
