Throttle Body Assembly Replacement
REMOVAL PROCEDURETOOLS REQUIRED
J 34730 Fuel Pressure Gauge
NOTE: Do not damage the MAF sensor screen. A damaged screen could restrict airflow and lead to a driveability concern.
1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to the Fuel Pressure Relief Procedure.
2. Remove the MAF sensor electrical connector (1) from the MAF sensor (2).
3. Remove the MAF sensor bolts.
4. Remove the MAF sensor and intake air duct as an assembly.
5. Remove the cruise control cable (2) from accelerator controls cable bracket (1).
6. Remove the accelerator cable (3) from accelerator controls cable bracket (1).
7. Remove the cruise control cable (2) from throttle body lever.
8. Remove the accelerator control cable (1) from throttle body lever.
9. Remove the TP sensor electrical connector from the TP sensor.
10. Remove the IAC valve electrical connector from the IAC valve.
11. Drain the coolant from the system.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the vehicle has had sufficient cool-down time before servicing the cooling system.
12. Remove the throttle body coolant hoses (1) at the throttle body.
13. Remove the fuel feed and return lines from the retainer (1) on the accelerator controls cable bracket.
14. Remove the transaxle vent hose (2) clip from the accelerator controls cable bracket (1).
15. Remove the transaxle shift cable from the accelerator controls cable bracket.
16. Remove the accelerator controls cable bracket and bolts.
17. Remove the throttle body (1) and gasket (2) from the throttle body spacer (3).
DISASSEMBLE PROCEDURE
NOTE:
^ Do not immerse the TP sensor and IAC valve in any type of cleaner. This cleaning method may damage these electronic components.
^ Use care when cleaning the old gasket from the aluminum surfaces in order to prevent damage to the sealing surfaces.
1. Remove the TP sensor bolts (3) from the TP sensor (2).
2. Remove the TP sensor (2) from the throttle body.
3. Remove the IAC valve bolts (4) from the IAC valve (1).
4. Remove the IAC valve (1) from the throttle body.
5. Discard the O-rings.
NOTE: Do not use a cleaner which contains methyl ethyl ketone. This extremely strong solvent may damage components and is not necessary for this type of cleaning.
Use a carburetor cleaner in order to remove deposits.
Refer to the instructions provided with the cleaner.
6. Clean the throttle body gasket surfaces.
ASSEMBLE PROCEDURE
1. Install the new O-rings to the sensors.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
2. Install the IAC valve to the throttle body.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 3 N.m (27 lb in).
3. Install the TP sensor to the throttle body.
Tighten
Tighten the TP bolts to 2.3 N.m (20 lb in).
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: The outlet of the air cleaner assembly and the MAF sensor inlet duct must line up when completely installed. Misalignment may cause incorrect airflow readings resulting in MIL illumination or a driveability concern. An improperly installed inlet duct assembly or air cleaner assembly may cause misalignment.
IMPORTANT: Do Not Reuse the old throttle body gasket.
1. Position the new throttle body gasket (2) on throttle body.
2. Install the accelerator controls bracket and two top throttle body bolts.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install bolts from the throttle body (1) to throttle body spacer (3) and finger tighten 2 lower bolts.
Tighten
Tighten all 4 throttle body attaching bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
4. Install the throttle body coolant hoses at throttle body.
5. Install the accelerator cable bracket to throttle body spacer bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
6. Install the IAC valve electrical connector to the IAC valve.
7. Install the TP sensor electrical connector to the TP sensor.
8. Install the accelerator control cable (1) at throttle body lever.
9. Install the cruise control cable (2) at throttle body lever.
10. Install the accelerator controls cable (3) to the accelerator controls cable bracket (1).
11. Install the cruise controls cable to accelerator controls cable bracket (1).
12. Install the transaxle shift cable from the accelerator controls cable bracket.
13. Install the transaxle vent hose (2) clip from the bracket (1).
14. Install the fuel feed and return lines from the. retainer (1) on to the accelerator controls cable bracket.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
15. Install the MAF sensor and intake air duct assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 8 N.m (71 lb in).
16. Install the intake air duct clamp to the intake air duct assembly.
Tighten
Tighten the intake air duct clamp(s) to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in) at the MAF sensor and 1.8 N.m (16 lb in) at the air cleaner.
17. Install the MAF sensor electrical connector (1) to the MAF sensor (2).
18. Install the intake manifold top cover.
