Starter Motor Replacement RPO (L47)
REMOVAL PROCEDURECAUTION: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in Cautions and Notices.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable at the battery.
2. Disconnect the positive battery cable at the battery.
3. Remove the intake manifold.
4. Remove the solenoid S terminal nut.
5. Remove the battery cable nut.
6. Remove the starter motor mounting bolts.
7. Remove the starter motor.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
NOTE: Before installing the starter motor to the engine, tighten the inner nuts on the solenoid terminals to be sure that they are secure in the cap. Tighten the inner nuts on the battery terminal and the starter motor terminal to 8 Nm (70 lb in). If the nuts are not properly tightened, the starter may fail later due to terminal or cap damage.
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.
1. Connect the solenoid switch lead.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 3 Nm (26 lb in).
2. Install the battery cable nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 8 Nm (71 lb in).
3. Install the starter motor.
4. Install the starter motor mounting bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 30 Nm (22 lb ft).
5. Install the intake manifold.
6. Connect the positive battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 15 Nm (11 lb ft).
