Camshaft Timing Drive Components Cleaning and InspectionCleaning Procedure
1. Clean all the following components with solvent:
^ Camshaft sprockets
^ Intermediate sprocket
^ Crankshaft sprocket
^ Primary timing chain
^ Secondary timing chains
^ Primary timing chain guide
^ Secondary timing chain guides
^ Primary timing chain shoe
^ Secondary timing chain shoes
^ Primary timing chain tensioner
^ Secondary timing chain tensioners
^ Timing component fastening bolts
Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in Service Precautions.
1. Dry the timing components with compressed air.
Visual Inspection
1. Inspect the camshaft, crankshaft and intermediate sprockets for damage. The camshaft, crankshaft and intermediate sprockets are not repairable. If a camshaft, crankshaft and/or intermediate sprocket is damaged, the camshaft, crankshaft and/or intermediate sprocket must be replaced.
2. Inspect the intermediate sprocket bearing bore for damage. The intermediate sprocket bearing bore is not repairable. If the intermediate sprocket bearing bore is damaged, the intermediate sprocket must be replaced.
3. Inspect the timing guides and shoes for wear, cracks or damage. The timing guides and shoes are not repairable. If a timing guide or shoe is worn cracked or damaged, the timing guide or shoe must be replaced.
4. Inspect the timing chain tensioners for damage. The timing chain tensioners are not repairable. If a timing chain tensioner is damaged, the timing chain tensioner must be replaced.
5. Inspect all bolts for damage. If a bolt is damaged, the bolt must be replaced.
6. Inspect the timing chains for damage. The timing chains are not repairable. If a timing chain is damaged, the timing chain must be replaced.
