Engine Front Cover ReplacementRemoval Procedure
1. Remove the drive belt tensioner.
2. Remove the drive belt idler pulley bolt.
3. Remove the drive belt idler pulley.
4. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
5. Remove the right engine mount bracket.
6. Remove the front cover bolts.
7. Remove the front cover and gasket. The gasket is reusable. Do not discard unless it is damaged.
Installation Procedure
1. Place a small amount of sealant GM P/N 12345739 or equivalent at the split line of the upper and lower crankcases (1).
2. Place the front cover gasket over the crankcase dowel pins.
3. Place the front cover in position on the crankcase.
4. Install the front cover retaining bolts.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
5. Tighten the front cover retaining bolts in the sequence shown.
^ Tighten the front cover retaining bolts in proper sequence to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
6. Install the crankshaft balancer.
7. Install the right engine mount bracket.
8. Install the drive belt idler pulley.
9. Install the drive-belt idler pulley bolt.
^ Tighten the drive belt idler pulley bolt to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.).
10. Install the drive belt tensioner.
