Average Fuel Economy
The average fuel economy is a function of the distance travelled divided by the fuel used since the average fuel economy parameter was last reset. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel used, and the IPC uses the distance information calculated for the odometer display for the values in the equation. The IPC sends a class 2 message to the DIC indicating the average fuel economy. The average fuel economy parameter is displayed on the DIC in one of the following formats:
^ ##.# AVG. MI/GAL
^ ##.# AVG. L/100 KM
The ##.# represent the calculated average fuel economy value. The units of the display correspond to the current IPC setting (English/metric). The average fuel economy is reset by pressing the RESET button for greater than 3 seconds while the average fuel economy message is displayed. The DIC displays 0.0 MPG for the English mode and 99.9 L/100 KM for the metric mode when the parameter is reset.
