Instantaneous Fuel Economy

The instantaneous fuel economy is a function of distance divided by fuel used over a short period of time. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM indicating the fuel used, and the IPC uses the distance information calculated for the odometer display for the values in the equation. The IPC sends a class 2 message to the DIC indicating the instantaneous fuel value. The instantaneous fuel economy parameter is displayed on the DIC in one of the following formats:
^ ## INST MI/GAL
^ ## INST L/100KM

The ## represent the calculated instantaneous fuel economy value. The units of the display correspond to the current IPC setting (English/metric). The instantaneous fuel economy cannot be reset by the driver.
