Scan Tool Data Definitions

The IPC Scan Tool Data Definitions contains a brief description of all IPC related parameters available on the scan toot.

8 Digit GM Part Number: The scan tool displays the GM eight digit part number of the IPC.

Antilock Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the ABS indicator as commanded by the IPC.

Battery Voltage: The scan tool displays 0-25.5 volts. The voltage measured at the battery positive voltage circuit of the IPC.

Brake Fluid Level: The scan tool displays OK/Low. The IPC monitors the brake fluid level switch where a closed switch is displayed as Low.

Coolant Level: The scan tool displays OK/Low. The IPC monitors the coolant level switch where a closed switch is displayed as Low.

Driver Door Ajar Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the driver door ajar switch input detected by the DDM.

ECT Sensor: The scan tool displays -40° C (-40° F) to 140° C (284° F). The PCM monitors the voltage at the signal circuit of the engine coolant temperature sensor.

Engine Oil Level Switch: The scan tool displays OK/Low. The PCM monitors the signal circuit of the engine oil level switch, where an open switch is displayed as Low.

Engine Oil Life Remaining: The scan tool displays 0-100%. The PCM is responsible for calculating and sending the correct oil life data to the IPC.

Engine Oil Pressure Sensor: The scan tool displays 0-19 V. The PCM monitors the signal circuit of the engine oil pressure sensor.

Engine Oil Pressure Switch: The scan tool displays OK/Low. The PCM monitors the signal circuit of the engine oil pressure switch.

Engine Speed: The scan tool displays 0-9999 RPM. The PCM is responsible for calculating correct engine speed data using the vehicle speed sensor input.

Fuel Level: The scan tool displays 0-100%. The PCM calculates the amount of fuel remaining in the tank based on the fuel level signal circuit.

Fuel Level: The scan tool displays Liters. The PCM calculates the amount of fuel remaining in the tank based on the fuel level signal circuit.

Fuel Level Sensor: The scan tool displays 0-5 V. The PCM monitors the signal circuit of the fuel level sensor.

Ignition 1: The scan tool displays On/Off. This indicates whether or not there is ignition 1 voltage at the IPC.

Ignition 3: The scan tool displays On/Off. This indicates whether or not there is ignition 3 voltage at the DIC.

Ignition Counter: The scan tool displays 0-50. The DIC counts the number of times the ignition is cycled.

Key In Ignition: The scan tool displays Yes/No. The instrument panel module (IPM) monitors the ignition key alarm switch, where a closed switch is displayed as Yes (key in ignition).

Left Rear Door Ajar Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the left rear door ajar switch.

Lt Turning Signal Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the left turn signal supply voltage circuit, where an active turn signal toggles between On and Off

Odometer: The scan tool displays kilometers (miles). The IPC determines the distance travelled based on the vehicle speed sensor signal and sends the information to the PCM via class 2.

On/Off Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The DIC monitors the On/Off switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Park Brake Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the park brake switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Park Lamp: The scan tool displays On/Off. The dash integration module (DIM) monitors the park lamp switch.

Passenger Door Ajar Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the passenger door ajar switch.

Prom ID: The scan tool displays the 4 digit number that identifies the PROM of the module.

Reset Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The DIC monitors the RESET switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Right Rear Door Ajar Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The state of the right rear door ajar switch.

Rt Turning Signal Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the right turn signal supply voltage circuit, where an active turn signal toggles between On and Off.

Select Down: The scan tool displays On/Off. The DIC monitors the Select Down switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Select Right: The scan tool displays On/Off. The DIC monitors the Select Right switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Serial Number: The scan tool displays the 4 digit serial number.

Trip Odometer A/B Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the trip odometer A/B switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Trip Reset Switch: The scan tool displays On/Off. The DIC monitors the trip reset switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Vehicle Speed: The scan tool displays 0-255 km/h (0-159 mph). The IPC obtains vehicle speed data from the PCM on a dedicated input. The PCM is responsible for calculating correct vehicle speed data.

Washer Fluid Level: The scan tool displays On/Off. The IPC monitors the windshield washer fluid level switch, where a closed switch is displayed as On.

Year Module Built: The scan tool displays the 4 digit number which corresponds to the year that module was manufactured.
