Removal Procedure
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the air cleaner intake duct.
3. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connectors from the transaxle and the PNP switch.
4. Remove the automatic transaxle range selector cable from the PNP switch and the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket.
5. Remove the ground wire nuts and the ground wires from the studs.
Important: The transaxle engine bolts must be returned to their original position. The bolt installed in position number (5) is two millimeters shorter then the other transaxle engine bolts and requires the use of thread sealant. The bolt installed in position number (3) has a special pilot point.
6. Remove the upper transaxle bolts (1,3,4,5).
7. Remove the engine mount strut bracket from the upper radiator support.
8. Install the engine support fixture.
9. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
10. Drain the transaxle fluid.
11. Remove the frame from the vehicle.
Important: Ensure the transmission jack is properly secured to the transaxle.
12. Position a transmission jack under the transaxle and secure the transmission jack to the transaxle.
13. Remove the transaxle fluid filler tube bolt.
14. Remove the transaxle fluid filler tube.
15. Remove the torque converter cover bolts.
16. Remove the torque converter cover.
17. Remove the starter motor.
18. Use the J 43442 in order to gain access to the torque converter bolts and prevent the flywheel from turning.
19. Remove the torque converter bolts.
20. Remove the transaxle oil cooler pipes from the transaxle.
21. Remove the wheel drive shafts from the transaxle.
22. Secure the wheel drive shafts to the steering knuckle and the struts.
23. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.
24. Remove the transaxle brace.
25. Remove the lower transaxle bolt (6) and the stud (0).
26. Using the transmission jack lower and remove the transaxle from the vehicle.
27. Remove the PNP switch.
28. Remove the transaxle mount.
29. If the transaxle is being disassembled and inspected.
30. Use the J 35944-A or equivalent to flush the transaxle oil cooler and the transaxle oil cooler hose/pipes.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the transaxle mount.
2. Install the PNP switch.
Important: Ensure the transaxle is secured properly to the transmission jack.
3. Install the transaxle to the transmission jack
4. Use the transmission jack to raise and install the transaxle to the engine.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.

5. Install the lower transaxle bolt (6) and the stud (0).
^ Tighten the bolt and the stud to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).
6. Install the transaxle brace.
7. Connect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.
8. Remove the wheel drive shafts from the steering knuckle and the struts.
9. Install the wheel drive shafts to the transaxle.
10. Install the transaxle oil cooler pipes to the transaxle.
11. Install the J 43442 to the flywheel to gain access to install the torque converter bolts and prevent the flywheel from turning.
12. Install the torque converter bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 63 Nm (46 ft. lbs.).
13. Install the starter motor.
14. Install the torque converter cover.
15. Install the torque converter cover bolts.
^ Tighten the bolts to 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.).
16. Install the transaxle fluid filler tube.
17. Install the transaxle fluid filler tube bolt.
^ Tighten the bolt to 13 Nm (115 inch lbs.).
18. Remove the transmission jack from the transaxle.
19. Install the frame to the vehicle.
20. Lower the vehicle.
Important: The transaxle engine bolts must be returned to their original position. The bolt installed in position number (5) is two millimeters shorter then the other transaxle engine bolts and requires the use of thread sealant. The bolt installed in position number (3) has a special pilot point.
21. Install the upper transaxle bolts (1,3,4,5).
^ Tighten the upper transaxle bolts (1,3,4) to 75 Nm (55 ft. lbs.).
^ Tighten the upper transaxle bolt (5) to 50 Nm (36 ft. lbs.).
22. Install the ground wires and the nuts to the studs.
^ Tighten the nuts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
23. Install the automatic transaxle range selector cable to the PNP switch and the automatic transaxle range selector cable bracket.
24. Remove the engine support fixture.
25. Connect the electrical wiring harness connectors to the transaxle and the PNP switch.
26. Install the engine mount strut bracket to the upper radiator support.
27. Install the air cleaner intake duct.
28. Connect the negative battery cable.
Notice: Refer to Do Not Overfill the Transmission Notice in Service Precautions.
29. Adjust the fluid level.
30. Inspect for fluid leaks.
31. Measure the wheel alignment.
