Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Before performing system diagnosis, ensure engine and all related systems are in proper operating condition.
The electronic feedback carburetor system can be checked using a voltmeter. Check voltage of each terminal, as specified in system diagnosis chart. On 1987-88 models, an ``ECI checker'' is needed to perform diagnostic procedures. Refer to ``ECI Check Procedure'' for test procedures. On all models, ensure battery is fully charged, ignition switch and all other specified conditions are observed as called out in chart.
If battery terminals are disconnected while engine is running or when ignition switch is in the On position, damage to computer or semiconductors may result.
